Unfiltered Reflections

And if you were to pass

I would plant a tree beside your grave

That will protect you from the heat

For every flower needs a branch to blossom on

And I would water the seed with my tears

In hopes they reach your skin

And I may still be with you

When one plants a tree, or plants anything for that matter, physical or metaphysical, do they merely create shade and tell people about themselves, or do they forge a bridge between life and beyond. Take the tree for example. The earth grasps the roots tightly, a never-ending show of affection, while the branches call out to the heavens, as do many of us. The duality of a human, adoring this life while begging for refuge in the next, are we not akin to the rest of the creatures?
